Printing Tips & Facts How to Prepare Files For Printing

When sending files to your "local printer" for prints, you should be aware of compatibility issues with "your software" and your printer's software requirements. Software that you buy for home use may not be compatible with the higher end requirements of commercial printing. The easiest and most reliable method is using the Adobe PDF format. Invented by Adobe Systems and perfected over 15 years, Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) lets you capture and view information from any application, on any computer system, and share it with anyone around the world. Individuals, businesses, and government agencies everywhere trust and rely on Adobe¬ PDF to communicate their ideas and vision. Most programs now allow you to save or export your files into this format. Be sure to save your PDF file at a minimum of 300 dpi with no downsampling. These options will be available when you go in to the "save as" dialogue box. The resulting file will be viewable and printable on any platform-Macintosh, Microsoft¨ Windows¨, UNIX¨, and many mobile platforms. Download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader*.

*This free reader will only allow you to view PDF documents. You will need to use "save as PDF", from within the program used to create the document.
